Client:
Arcolux b.v., Heerhugowaard.

Challenge:
A high volume of requests and orders applies for four product groups sky lights. The sky lights are a combination of ETO and ATO parts. The challenge is to realise a design, a tender, documentation and an EEM report of a variant from a product family, more quickly.

Result:
A detailed knowledge based engineering system with which Arcolux can generate variants of the product families in a perfect and efficient manner. Arcolux is capable to manage and expand the product configurator independently. 800 to 1000 requests/orders per year.

Our approach:
Post en Dekker has analysed the available design knowledge. On the basis of this analysis a generic product structure and knowledge rules have been determined. We have also made a complete system design in which functional, technical and graphic designs have been defined. On the basis of these scope documents an implementation trajectory has started. Product structure and knowledge rules have been determined in a knowledge management system. A User Interface makes it possible to unlock this knowledge and to carry out a configuration session.
An EEM solver has been implemented into this PCF which, after each configuration session, can generate an order specific EEM report. This analysis can be carried out by means of different (region specific) standards, and the report can be generated in different languages.

Output of the product configurator:
- Tender (several languages).
- EEM Report.
- Instruction records.
- Lists of material.
