The international Food & Dairy market must, under constant pricing pressure of supermarket chains, increasingly comply with higher demands with regard to food safety. Often, problems with food hygiene make (inter)national headlines and this regularly results in high claims. The challenge is therefore, to control the costs and at the same time comply with the demands of the client.

Assignment: Bridging the Future

Restructuring and redesigning the product family Sterideal and realize a firm integral cost reduction and time reduction for sales and order engineering, with a turn from engineering-to-order to configure-to-order.

Approach

Post en Dekker’s integral project management team and Stork Food & Dairy Systems’ project team have defined and carried out the project goals. Post en Dekker first set up the functional specifications and the generic product structure of the product family Sterideal. On the basis of this, the CTO modules (configure-to-order) and the knowledge and configuration rules were determined. The product family was determined as 100% configure-to-order for various capacity needs.

After the technical specifications were set up, the process was standardized up to items level. Following this, a procurement trajectory was carried out. After that, smart modules were designed with which, for many of the applications, a client-specific machine can be put together. All generic modules of the product family have been tested and improved intensively and then integrally designed. The manufacturing of the variants of the generic modules has been automated. The main and sub configurations are client-specific configure-to-order, with for some modules adjustments on detail level.

For quick and flawless composing of a client-specific order, a product configurator has been designed which can easily configure all order documents (tenders, general lay-outs, P&ID, 3D/2D CAD and BOM). Also provided for, is the connection with ERP. All product documentation has been delivered, including 3D/2D CAD, FS, TDS, engineering-motivation and SAP lists.
