BS Steller

Optimization with Finite Element Analysis

Market

Vialis delivers sustainable mobility solutions for road and railway transportation. Originally, the Vialis companies specialized mostly in the delivery of such products and alert (maintenance) services. But clients nowadays also demand an integral cost control for the entire lifespan with a lasting yield return.

Assignment: Bridging the Gap

Lengthen the lifespan of a Vialis product, the BS Steller, with a higher reliability against lower maintenance costs.

Approach

Carrying out a multi-body Finite Elements Analysis. For several user scenarios, pre-processing, processing and post-processing was carried out, in order to get an insight into where the weak spots of the design were in relation to the various loading conditions. These insights formed the basis for a new modular design of the bracket. The choice of material was optimized and the production method was made concrete more strictly. It was demonstrated that the bracket complies with the strictest standards in both the Netherlands and abroad with regard to the application of various crane sizes.

Result: Go fix it!

By choosing better material and an optimal and reliable design, the stiffness and strength of the support could be improved tremendously. Becausee of this the product now complies with the new market demands and the most strict standards for integral sustainable solutions.
